BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS Bacterial vaginosis is described as a type of vaginal infection that
results from the overgrowth of one of several types of bacteria that are
normally present in the vagina, thereby upsetting the natural balance
and PH of the vaginal bacteria. Although any woman can experience Bacterial vaginosis but it commonly affect women between the ages of 15 to 45 yrs. CAUSES Causes of bacterial vaginosis is still being looked into, however anything that disrupts the normal flora balance and PH of the vagina can be a cause of it such as: Douching Although non sexually active women can still have it! DIAGNOSIS Diagnosis of Bacterial vaginosis is not only made from Laboratory
investigations but also from proper history taking and pelvic
examination. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS Women with bacterial vaginosis (BV) will experience: Women with BV also experience urinary symptoms Although some women with BV have no symptoms at all Treatment Bacterial vaginosis is treated with antibiotics of which antibiotics
is very effective for this infection! Symptoms will usually clear off
after some days of antibiotics use.
Having unprotected sex
Having multiple sexual partners
Vaginal discharge which is itching and sometimes grayish white in colour.
Fishy smell....Bacterial vaginosis is one sexually transmitted infection
that is known for its characteristics fishy odour which usually becomes
worse after sexual intercourse.
