As the term is indicated by "Infectious Vaginosis", it is an infectious disease that occurs in the genitals of a woman.
In general, the vaginal microflora consists of lacto and bifidobacteria. They represent 90% and 9%, the remaining percentage are conditional pathogenic microorganisms. The convention is that they are not the source of any disease.

In the event that the proportion of lactobacilli or bifidobacteria decreases, and the level of pathogenic conditioning bacteria increases, a failure occurs, leading to the formation of harmful bacteria (Escherichia coli, chlamydia, etc.). The balance between beneficial and opportunistic bacteria is altered, which leads to the formation of an inflammatory process.

The causes of vaginosis are both exogenous and endogenous, and can occur in any woman of reproductive age.

Exogenous causes include: Breach of the basic principles of intimate hygiene or excessive manifestation; long antibiotic treatment; contraceptive barrier; and even frequent change of sexual partners.

The endogenous causes are linked to: Pregnancy or its termination (both natural and artificial), hormonal failure, endocrine problems and menopause.

Almost half of the women are asymptomatic, and only after the test do they learn about their diagnosis. However, the second half, have several symptoms such as: the discharge of whitish or gray flow with an unpleasant smell (a "smell" of rotten fish or smell of ammonia); as it progresses, the color turns yellow or green. The consistency changes for more dense and sticky; there is itching and burning; and a lot of obvious pain during intercourse.

The diagnosis of vaginosis can be made by the doctor with an interview to the patient and elaborating a general image of their health, or performing an examination by a gynecologist to take a smear and be able to identify pathogenic bacteria.

According to numerous clinical studies, it was possible to establish that this disease is not peculiar to be transmitted sexually. In addition, this pathology can be observed even in those girls who do not live sexually.

What every woman should know, is that having an infection in the vagina, interferes with the normal development of the life of his wife, then it is important to take the necessary care of hygiene and be attentive to any change that represents an alteration to lend the necessary attention to be healthy.

Therefore, each woman must have preventive measures, aimed at maintaining the constancy of the vaginal environment and the elimination of factors that provoke bacterial vaginosis, in this sense it is recommended to maintain an adequate intimate hygiene, to have a stable sexual life, to use rationally the antibiotics and antifungal, and especially go to the constant medical review.
